Sailing in the north of Ibiza: Cala Xarraca, Benirrás and Port de San Miguel
Blue Ocean Ibiza

Discover one of the best routes for sailing around Ibiza. Enjoy a unique experience in the north of the island!

The northernmost part of Ibiza is full of a special magic and tranquility, different from the atmosphere you'll find in the south.

That doesn't make it any better than the rest of the areas: we recommend that you visit as many places as possible and do as many routes as you like to create unforgettable memories.

But, in this article, we'll show you the wonders you can find if you decide to venture to the north coast of the island.

Don't miss them!

Cala Xarraca

cala xarraca

This cove is one of the jewels of Ibiza, whether for bathers, diving enthusiasts, kayaking enthusiasts or those who arrive by boat.

In Cala Xarraca you will find one of the most crystalline waters on our coasts, as well as an islet accessible by swimming.

If you like marine fauna, if you dive you will be able to enjoy the Ibizan ecosystem, either watching the fish or the aquatic plants.

Moreover, if you need to refresh yourself or have something to eat, there is a restaurant at the entrance to the beach.

Let yourself be impressed by the crystal-clear waters of this well-known cove in the north of Ibiza.

Benirrás

Another of the best-known beaches in the north, which you can reach easily if you feel like sailing in the north of Ibiza, is Benirrás.

This is where you'll find one of the island's most hippie events every Sunday: drumming at sunset.

This tradition began as a spontaneous gathering decades ago, as the moon projected over the sea offers a magical corner for these Bohemian lovers.

Nowadays, access by car is restricted in summer on that day, and you have to go to a car park where you will leave your car and get off by bus, so getting there by boat is really practical.

In addition to the drums on Sundays, in Benirrás you will find a beautiful cove with stunning turquoise waters, as well as views of the Ibizan forests. The perfect mix of sea and mountain.

If you are interested in the services you will find, there are several restaurants with typical Ibizan cuisine such as paella or guisat de peix (fish stew).

Finally, the huge islet in the center of the cove will not leave you indifferent, so take a boat trip to the north of Ibiza until you reach Cala Benirrás.

Port de San Miguel

It is probably the most touristic area in the north of the island, which means a greater number of activities to do.

It consists of two areas: the beach and a small cove where you can see the typical Ibizan fishermen's huts, which still remind us of our seafaring and, above all, fishing history.

If you go to the beach, you will find several restaurants where you can eat, but Port de San Miguel also has some water sports such as kayaking and sailing.

In general, it's a fun area to stop off in while you go sailing around Ibiza, especially for the little ones.

Recommendations for sailing in the north of Ibiza

After explaining some particularities of each of the three locations we have shown you, we give you some recommendations.

The route can be done in the order in which the coves appear in this post, that is: Cala Xarraca, then Benirrás, and finally Port de San Miguel, as they are next to each other.

Our recommendation is to do it the other way round to enjoy the port activities early in the morning, and maybe stop for lunch to continue to Benirrás.

However, if you don't mind undoing the route, the ideal would be to go from Cala Xarraca to Port de San Miguel to make the most of both locations, and finish in Benirrás enjoying the sunset with the famous hippy drummers.

You can follow this recommendation or go in order depending on what you feel like doing, as in the end the most important thing is that you enjoy the experience of sailing in the north of the island.
